Stag Inn, Hastings

Temporary Notice

With a degree of distancing necessary, we are limiting the number of people in the pub so our events might not reappear at their familiar rate for a while.

We hope we can host a few intimate, outdoor events soon so please keep checking our Facebook page for details.

The Stag is one of Hastings’ premier venues for live music, The pub has a long-established tradition of folk and acoustic music, which we are delighted to continue alongside a wealth of Americana, Indie and country-tinged acts. Our live weekend bands combine the best of the considerable pool of local talent with exciting visiting acts. Keep it live, keep it free.

Look out for our special weekend mini-fests, as well as regular features like the Laughing Stag Comedy Club, Friday Night Supper Clubs, Audience with … series of interviews and our new Vinyl Club.

Mondays - The Stag Quiz Night

8pm start

Come and face the challenge if you dare. An anarchic night of quiz questions from published Quizmaster (and landlord) Nick Holt. There is lively banter and occasional irreverence. It’s rarely the same, it’s never too easy, and it’s always a blast. Even the loser wins. Booking highly recommended - maximum six per team, £1 per person.

Tuesdays - Folk sessions

8.30pm - 11pm

The Stag Tuesday folk session has been around for forty years or so. Anyone can sit around the table with the regulars or stand up and sing a song. You’ll find the locals are never shy of doing so and newcomers are guaranteed a warm welcome. Or you can just grab a seat, enjoy a beer and watch.

Wednesdays - Old time Americana/Bluegrass sessions

8.30pm - 11pm

Come and join the boys for an evening of country and bluegrass music – with (optional) dancing and impromptu whoopin’ and hollerin’ (often from behind the bar …). Guitars, banjos, sensational stand-up bass and the occasional fiddle all make appearances on this warm and eclectic musical evening.

This authentic good time is a unique experience – why not book for dinner and stay for the session?

Thursdays - Song sessions

9pm - 11pm

Every Thursday a regular host invites you to join them for an intimate evening of music. First and third Thursdays in the month are a capella sing-a-rounds, second and fourth (and quarterly fifth) are folk and blues clubs with instruments welcome. Visiting performers welcome and cheered – but there’s no obligation to sing or play, you are welcome just to relax and listen.

Regular Friday features include Tasting Suppers, Laughing Stag Comedy Club, Vinyl Club, An Audience with … (interviews with local musicians). Keep your eye on our Facebook page for details.

The Stag is a small but widely respected music venue with some of the town’s best live bands. Look out for our live gig announcements on our Facebook page.
