Chef Ben Cumberpatch is passionate about everything to do with food. Everything served from our kitchen is prepared in the same kitchen, from the main meals to the bread, sauces, pickles and ice creams.
With careful ordering and a well-planned menu, our food waste can be close to zero. Any scraps or parings are used for stocks or composted in The Stag garden where possible – even cooked food scraps are popped into the Bokashi bin and returned to the earth.
We are able to grow a little of our own produce in the garden – food miles twenty yards!
We have a couple of apple trees, a cherry and a plum tree, some young fig trees and a small herb garden - this year we are growing all our own edible flowers for garnish. Ben and trainee chef Grace have regular foraging trips for seasonal produce: Grace is now the proud owner of her first foraging knife.
We love hosting special events at The Stag and you can book the whole pub, the dining room or private areas of our lovely garden to host your special occasion. We are happy to help you plan and, whether you'd like a full 6 course tasting menu, a hearty lunch, a buffet or canapes and fizz, we are happy to help.
